Rosa Crimson Glory, also known as French ink red and vermilion double glow, is a perennial woody plant of the Rosaceae genus. This variety is a hybrid of perfume rose (Rosahvbrida Hvbird Tea Rosa) and hybrid Changchun rose (Hybrid Perpetual Rosa), which was bred by Wilhelm J.H. Kordes II of Germany in 1935. At first, it was mainly used for industrial production of essence. In 1989, Hongta District, Yuxi City, Yunnan Province introduced ink red from Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, to plant and produce rose spices. In recent years, Yunnan’s tourism industry and modern characteristic agriculture on the plateau have developed rapidly. With its unique climate and geographical conditions, Yunnan’s edible rose industry has ushered in new opportunities for development. Ink red roses, with their strong aroma and high yield, are widely planted as the main variety of edible roses in Yunnan.
At present, Rosa Crimson Glory is mainly used for processing and producing flower cakes, rose sugar, rose dew, rose tea, rose pigment, rose wine, etc. According to the “Chinese Food Composition Table Standard Edition” (6th edition), analyze and evaluate the basic nutritional components of ink red roses, clarify the nutritional characteristics of ink red roses as food, and provide scientific basis for product development and industrial upgrading of ink red roses.
As one of the main edible rose varieties in Yunnan Province, Rosa Crimson Glory are widely planted in Kunming, Dali, Wenshan, Yuxi and other places, and have good development prospects. Research has found that ink red roses have high crude fiber and carbohydrate content, and have high nutritional value in various minerals. They are rich in various amino acids, and their vitamin C and trace element content are similar to common vegetables.
From the analysis of basic nutritional components, the crude fiber content of Rosa Crimson Glory is rich, reaching 1.9 g/100 g. Dietary fiber is known as the seventh largest nutrient and has various beneficial health functions such as reducing blood sugar and cholesterol, promoting bowel movements, etc. [19-20]. From the analysis of mineral content, Rosa Crimson Glory are rich in potassium (K) and magnesium (Mg), with contents of 334 mg/100 g and 30.1 mg/100 g, respectively. Minerals cannot be synthesized in the body and need to be taken up by the outside world. They are essential nutrients for the human body. Potassium plays a role in maintaining osmotic pressure and acid-base balance, as well as maintaining normal myocardial function. Magnesium is an important component of bones, teeth, and cells, participating in energy metabolism. From the analysis of amino acid content, ink red rose has a high total amount of amino acids, especially essential amino acid content, which is more than 1.5 times that of Chinese cabbage and rapeseed. It contains 7 essential amino acids, which provide an important material basis for promoting growth, normal metabolism, and maintaining life. It can be used as a good dietary source of amino acids and is a local specialty food with broad market prospects. In future product development and design, it is possible to focus on highlighting the nutritional characteristics of Rosa Crimson Glory in terms of crude fiber, minerals, and amino acids, enhancing the core competitiveness of the product, and supporting industrial development.
